Top Tips on BsAs Books & Maps

If you are on your way to Buenos Aires and want something to read on the plane or in between tangos once here, then maybe you will find something enlightening in these suggestions. They offer views a little more tailored than your standard map or guide book. I’ll be adding more as I come across them. If I’ve read them myself I’ll tell you what I think. If I haven’t, then I will as soon as I can get my hands on them. Promise.

Happy Tango: Sallycat’s Guide to Dancing in Buenos Aires

It has to top the list. I wrote it myself!

Its mission is to help tango dancers visiting Buenos Aires to discover the happiest possible tango experiences in the city of tango dreams. However, I think it is great read for anyone interested in Buenos Aires, or for anyone headed out to Buenos Aires who would like to know more about the fascinating world of Argentine tango — a not-to-be-missed aspect of the city.

The book is now available from amazon.co.uk and amazon.com, and from BookDepository.co.uk and BookDepository.com (free shipping to many countries) — the book has started to ship, both in the USA and in the UK.

Caserón Porteño Tango Map Guide (PDF downloads)

by Caserón Porteño

Honestly, I do not know what I would have done without this map and guide. Even ignoring tango it’s a handy map to carry. If you’re into tango then it’s exactly what you need: tango venues, shoe stores, tango schools marked on the map; guide contains listings with addresses, phone numbers for reservations and hours of operation. Once you’re in town you can pick a copy up in most tango shoe stores, and it’s handed out at some tourist-circuit milongas. It comes out every two months and will get you off to a running start. I can’t recommend it highly enough. The creators also run a popular tango guesthouse, so you might want to check that out too.

Click here to read about how I used it and why I like it. In my opinion it’s a super way to plan some perfect days in your Buenos Aires adventure. Plus I love the idea of supporting a fellow Buenos Aires blogger in his enterprising ebook venture, instead of encouraging you to buy a standard guide book. Buy 4 perfect days in Buenos Aires by clicking on the picture link above.

In the interests of transparency – if you buy this book via a link on this blog, I get a percentage of the sale and it helps pay the blog’s hosting fees.

BA Insider Magazine

This was a cool little paper magazine with a light hearted, entertaining yet practical feel, for English speakers living in Buenos Aires. However, it’s now an online mag. Its tag line is The Who, What, When, How, Why & Where of Living in Buenos Aires. You can find and read all back issues online and free of charge at the new BA Insider Magazine website HERE.

I will post further information on interesting reads, as I come across them. Check back soon.
